Chapter 60: All Sensational News
Next, the real show was about to begin.
At dusk, the setting sun, like a perfect painter, drew an exquisite picture upon the canvas of the sky. Yunfu stood by the window, gazing into the distance. It had been a long time since she had felt such tranquility; in this moment, she suddenly felt as if she had been reborn. The thought brought a gentle smile to her lips—one that could topple cities and kingdoms alike.
Turning around, Yunfu thought to herself: It’s about time—the show should begin now.
Elsewhere, Liu Jue, his beer belly protruding, looked at the message on his phone with delight. It was from Ning Lan—“1706.”
Ning Lan had told him before that this actress Yunfu in her crew was open to anyone, as long as she got a small taste of profit. Now, it seemed true. He hadn’t even needed to ask; with just a word from Ning Lan, it was all arranged. These young women nowadays, he thought with contempt, but as he recalled Yunfu’s stunningly beautiful face, his eyes filled with a disgusting desire.
Following Ning Lan’s instructions, Liu Jue arrived at the room. He pressed lightly on the handle, and the door swung open. Liu Jue sneered; just as Ning Lan had said, she was eager for a little benefit—couldn’t even wait. But that was just as well. Such a cold, stunning girl—just the thought of her beneath him made his blood boil.
“Little thing, here I come!” Liu Jue closed the door behind him and strode eagerly inside. The room was dimly lit, making it hard to see, but it was clear that someone was lying half-dressed on the bed, murmuring seductively.
“So hot…”
Liu Jue’s throat tightened. He couldn’t restrain himself any longer and threw himself at the figure. But as the passion ignited, Liu Jue suddenly sensed something was off—this feeling was too familiar. Just as he reached to turn on the light, it flicked on with a snap.
Somehow, the door had been opened, and a swarm of people poured in. The bright light illuminated the entire sordid scene.
Liu Jue froze. When he saw the woman at the front of the crowd, his face drained of all color and he nearly collapsed.
“W-wife… let me explain, it was all… all that cheap woman’s fault, she seduced me, I…”
“Cut! Cut! Cut!” Cameras flashed incessantly in the hands of the crowd, their eyes gleaming with excitement. CEO, actress, hotel room, affair, caught in the act—any one of these was headline news. If not now, when?
Liu Jue’s mind buzzed. Glancing at Ning Lan, who lay beside him, he realized he’d been set up—but it was too late for regrets.
The middle-aged woman at the front, her appearance impeccably maintained, wore no expression at all; her eyes were icy and indifferent. She merely folded her arms, watching coldly.
“Stop filming! Do you even know who I am? Get out!”
The reporters glanced at her, then at the pair on the bed, hesitated, and continued snapping photos. Liu Jue was formidable, but his wife was even more so.
At that moment, the other person on the bed stirred awake. Groggy, Ning Lan saw Liu Jue and, noticing nothing amiss, instinctively snuggled closer, her movements intimate. “Liu, why are you here? Weren’t you going to Yunfu’s room? Did you not succeed?”
Smack! Liu Jue’s face darkened as he slapped Ning Lan hard, sending her tumbling off the bed. Only then did she realize something was wrong. She saw the woman with folded arms, the roomful of cameras, and her own nakedness.
She screamed. What was happening? Hadn’t she drugged Yunfu? Wasn’t Yunfu supposed to be caught by Liu Jue’s wife right now? How had it come to this—how had she ended up here?
“You wretch, stop spouting nonsense!” Liu Jue, now dressed, his face twisted with rage, slapped Ning Lan again.
He then knelt before his wife without hesitation. “Wife, it’s all my fault—I was blinded by lust. It was that woman—she seduced me for resources. She’s already fallen out with Du Xingyuan and is trying to climb higher. Please, for the sake of our years together, forgive me this once. I swear I’ll take care of that woman—she’ll never appear before you again.”
No matter how earnestly he pleaded, the woman before him remained expressionless, looking down on him as if he were already dead.
Meanwhile, Ning Lan, hearing Liu Jue’s words, exploded with fury, all reason gone. Wrapping herself in the bedsheet, she stormed over, voice sharp, “Really, Liu Jue? You came to me first, and now you say I seduced you? If you hadn’t promised me things Du Xingyuan couldn’t give, would I have been with an old man like you—or gotten pregnant?”
The crowd gasped—another bombshell!
The room fell silent once more.
Liu Jue’s wife, Fang Min’er, showed a ripple of emotion in her eyes. She glanced at the kneeling Liu Jue, then at Ning Lan, and suddenly laughed—a cold, desolate sound. “Pregnant? Good. At least the Liu family won’t die out completely.”
Her tone turned vicious. “But whether your Liu family can keep going—well, that’s hard to say.”
With that, she turned and walked away without looking back. The reporters snapped her retreating figure, then the ashen-faced Liu Jue and bewildered Ning Lan, before leaving just as quickly as they had come.
Meanwhile, in Room 1806 upstairs, Yunfu cradled a cup of milk tea, watching the “live broadcast” unfold on her laptop, utterly composed.
Her phone chimed with a message: “Boss, how was it? The surveillance I set up was clear enough, right? By the way, how did you know there’d be a show worth watching? It was brilliant!”
When this ‘Boss’ had asked him to investigate Ning Lan, he’d discovered that Ning Lan was plotting to frame Yunfu from their crew. The Boss had instructed him to help Yunfu, so he’d altered the message Ning Lan sent and changed the room number. As for why Yunfu’s meal had been switched, that must have been the Boss’s doing.
But for this woman named Yunfu to receive such attention from the Boss… Could she be someone the Boss likes? At this thought, Mo Day blinked his large eyes—he felt as if he’d just uncovered a major secret.
