Chapter 72: I Hate This Kind of Clout-Chasing the Most
Lian Hanqi waited until she had finished before turning to Su Changzhou at his side. “Deposit it into Yun Fu’s card,” he said.
Su Changzhou was speechless—so she was just a tool again.
After Su Changzhou nodded, he walked over and gently took Yun Fu by the hand, his voice softening instantly. “Are you hungry?”
“I’m fine.” Yun Fu glanced down at the hand he’d taken.
Tsk, this man was getting more and more natural at this.
Once they got into the car, Lian Hanqi retrieved an exquisitely crafted box from the storage compartment. At once, the sweet scent of fruit filled the air, pleasant and enticing.
“These are from abroad. Try them, see if you like them.”
Yun Fu took the box and opened it. Inside were fruit candies, their packaging several times more attractive than ordinary sweets. The fruity sweetness grew even richer as soon as the box was opened.
A glimmer flickered in Yun Fu’s eyes.
She was actually rather picky about what she ate, especially candy. She liked sweets but would never touch gummies, nor anything with artificial flavoring, and she didn’t care for chocolate at all.
She hadn’t expected Lian Hanqi to notice, let alone buy her fruit candies.
“They’re quite good,” she said.
“That’s all that matters. I’ll get you more when you finish them.”
“…Alright.”
Yun Fu turned her head, studying Lian Hanqi as he drove. Truly, he was the kind of man who could make anyone dream.
No wonder Yu Zhu was so obsessed with him.
Feeling bored, Yun Fu popped a piece of candy into her mouth and opened her phone to play a brain-training game.
It took her about ten minutes to clear the whole game.
And then she was bored again.
“Did you buy shumu for medical purposes?” she asked.
Lian Hanqi raised an eyebrow, surprised she called it shumu and knew of its medicinal properties. “It’s quite useful, isn’t it?”
“As expected of the little miracle doctor,” he teased.
Yun Fu stared at him, unsure what he was getting at—it was all so odd.
Just then, the car stopped at a red light.
Lian Hanqi turned toward her, his bright eyes fixed on Yun Fu. “How much would it cost to hire the little miracle doctor as a private physician?”
His gaze was intense, yet not at all off-putting.
Yun Fu’s expression didn’t change, though her fingers, resting on her knee, curled slightly.
She looked away, her voice calm. “I charge by the hour.”
Lian Hanqi chuckled. “What if I want to book the little miracle doctor for ten years? How much would that cost?”
“One billion.”
As soon as Yun Fu finished speaking, she saw Lian Hanqi’s lips curl in a faint smile. Before she could figure out what he meant, the car moved forward again.
When they arrived at their destination, Yun Fu’s phone suddenly vibrated—a message: [Account XX has received a transfer of one billion.]
“…”
Yun Fu frowned and looked at the man beside her.
He acted as though nothing out of the ordinary had happened, his demeanor as calm as ever. But he took his hands off the steering wheel, his voice low and alluring. “Since I’ve already paid, shouldn’t the little miracle doctor check my health now, hmm?”
Expressionless, Yun Fu looked at the hand extended toward her. After about two seconds, she placed her own hand lightly over his pulse.
A minute later—
Her face remained impassive. “Barring any accidents, you have another seventy years left to live.”
Lian Hanqi couldn’t help but laugh at her serious demeanor, reaching out to ruffle her hair. “Who knew the little miracle doctor could also tell fortunes.”
“…”
Afraid to tease her further and risk upsetting her, Lian Hanqi smiled gently, his eyes full of warmth, and led Yun Fu out of the car.
—
Two days later, Yun Fu received a message from Qiao An, saying that the production team of “Our Journey” would arrive soon to film a short preview of her packing process.
Qiao An added, “I already packed your things for you a few days ago. If you mess it up, just tidy it again.”
Yun Fu glanced around her home—not exactly messy, but certainly not neat.
Still, it would do.
The crew was due at seven in the morning. The show would be broadcast live, with edited highlights airing on weekends.
Since they hadn’t announced the guests’ entrances, all the fans—including those of the weekly special guest—woke up early to tune into the livestream.
Those who couldn’t watch live would wait for the weekend’s edited replay.
[Here we go! Is it our Movie King Gu? I’m so excited!]
[Is it the fairy Rou’er? Ahhh, finally I get to see what Rou’er is really like!]
[And our Teacher He Fang! I’m here!]
[Mubai! Mubai! Mubai!]
[Our Tingting is here too! Haven’t seen fresh footage of Tingting in ages, can’t wait!]
The production team had kept the cast list under wraps, likely planning to reveal everyone in the preview. Still, most fans already had a good idea who would be appearing—
Except for Yun Fu’s fans. Nobody believed Yun Fu was at a level to be on a variety show with such a star-studded lineup.
So almost none of Yun Fu’s fans tuned in for the livestream.
The camera slowly zoomed in, revealing first a high-tech-looking door.
[Wow, that door looks amazing, so futuristic! I want one just like it!]
[Must be expensive. Mubai really likes this kind of thing. Is it our Mubai’s house?]
Guesses rolled in until Yun Fu opened the door.
[Who is that?]
[Don’t know her, but honestly, this young lady is gorgeous.]
[Her looks are for real—seems like she’s not even wearing makeup.]
[What the heck, so pretty but nobody knows who she is. Is she just another “insider’s pick”?]
[Exactly. The other five guests are all popular idols at the very least. Who is she? I’ve never seen her before.]
[Most annoying are those who just leech off the show’s popularity. I’m not watching anymore!]
The livestream was thick with hostility, full of malice toward Yun Fu’s sudden appearance.
None of this mattered to Yun Fu, for she had no idea—and even if she did, she wouldn’t care.
The crew entered. The assistant cameraman took in the place—it was simple, yet exuded an understated elegance, with not a trace of girlish decoration.
“Yun Fu, could you give us a little introduction?” he prompted.
The beautiful girl frowned, looking puzzled. “But you’ve already seen it, haven’t you?”
The assistant laughed awkwardly; the rest of the crew struggled to hold back their amusement.
“Then could you show us your luggage?”
“Alright.”
Yun Fu lifted a nearby 26-inch suitcase with one hand, as if it weighed nothing, and set it before the camera.
Inside, everything was meticulously organized—daily necessities, essentials, clothes, shoes, makeup. It was clear she’d thought of everything.
The assistant asked again, “Yun Fu, do you have any travel recommendations for us? Anything you consider essential for a trip?”
Expressionless, Yun Fu rifled through her luggage. Though she recognized everything, not a single item seemed essential to her.
After all, throw her into the wilderness with nothing at all, and she’d still manage just fine.
