Chapter 149 Natalie
Baitian's plan could hardly be called crude; it was practically non-existent.
Yet upon closer reflection, it possessed a strange hint of feasibility.
Among their group, Li Momo, Mofei, and Officer Xiao had been locked in cages and brought up, and only Officer Xiao had matched the blood type to become a primary target of interest.
Even if Mofei had snuck aboard on his own and didn't count, the success rate remained quite high.
Long Er furrowed his brow slightly.
Could it really be true that beginners' luck applied to any line of work?
"Everyone, care to hear a word from me?" Mofei raised his hand.
All eyes turned toward him.
"Although I am merely an ordinary person with no experience in maritime adventures, common sense tells me—" Mofei raised a single finger, "—the best way to create chaos is to start a fire."
"And perish together with them?" Long Er's mouth twitched, offering no praise.
In his view, this was a terrible idea.
If the fire were small, the enemy would extinguish it in an instant.
If it were a massive blaze, the opponents would indeed be thrown into chaos, but they wouldn't stand a chance of escaping either.
Qin Qing shook his head in rejection, "We're on the ship as well; there's nowhere to run."
"Don't ships like this usually have lifeboats?" Officer Xiao asked.
"That depends entirely on the nature of the vessel," Baitian said with an expression of utter speechlessness. "Normal ships do, but a vessel like this..."
He shook his head.
How could a ship that takes human lives possibly be equipped with lifeboats?
Before they could brainstorm a better method, the sound of footsteps echoed from directly overhead.
The guards had no intention of granting them any breathing room.
"Shall we guess whether these fellows are carrying bullets?" Baitian hoisted a cabin door to shield one side, standing ready.
Long Er fixed his gaze on the opposite stairwell.
Were it not for the restrictive terrain, the guards wouldn't have been able to descend in batches like this.
Fighting in an open area where thousands of people swarmed forward all at once—let alone mercenaries, even the Terminator would perish.
As for moving thousands of people toward a single point on a ship, leaving aside whether it would cause a shift in the center of gravity, in such a confined space, even a hundred people crammed together would easily trigger a stampede.
If they weren't killed by the enemy, but trampled to death by their own side instead, that would truly be the height of stupidity.
The ship's chief of security was also having a severe headache.
This medical ship had put out to sea so many times, yet this was the first time such a massive disaster had occurred.
Nearly a hundred people were already dead, and they still hadn't figured out how many intruders there were.
Foreign clients were still waiting for the donor heart to save lives, and if he messed things up now, he would undoubtedly be hunted down relentlessly.
"Sir, have a cup of coffee, things will work out."
A tall, blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauty dressed in a nurse's uniform walked over to his side holding a coffee mug.
The security chief wore a look of profound worry, accepted the cup from her, and took a sip.
"Not so bad."
His attention was entirely focused on the floor plan of the medical ship before him, and his reply was perfunctory.
The blonde beauty's gaze also fell upon the floor plan, her light-colored eyes reflecting the heavily marked third-layer cargo hold.
Not every guard on the ship knew what was happening.
For now, everyone only knew there had been an intrusion, but the majority remained clueless about the true strength of the intruders.
"If it turns into a war of attrition, those two bastards are dead meat," the blonde beauty muttered under her breath.
"What?" The chief took another sip of coffee and looked at her in confusion.
The blonde beauty waved a hand, "Nothing. Go drink your medicine."
The security chief grew vigilant, resting his hand on his firearm, "Who are you!"
"Ugly and foul-mouthed to boot." The blonde beauty raised her hand and began counting down, "Three, two, one, off you go."
As she briskly finished the countdown, the security chief slumped straight down onto the floor.
"Little fellow, couldn't hold you down anymore, could I?" The blonde beauty picked up the walkie-talkie from the desk, tested her voice, pressed the button, and said, "Retreat!"
Strangely enough, the English word that spilled from her lips was in the exact voice of the security chief.
The guards fighting fiercely on the third level were completely bewildered upon receiving this order.
Hadn't strict orders been given earlier to crush the intruders at all costs? Why retreat now?
This sudden retreat, however, bought them a breathing spell.
Before they could even dwell on it, a continuous stream of retreat orders mixed with curses poured from the walkie-talkie.
With no other choice, the guards had to obey and fall back.
One deputy chief, upon hearing the command, ripped off his headset and flew into a rage.
The chief alone couldn't manage a thousand people; he had several deputy chiefs under him, and beneath them were squad leaders.
This particular deputy chief didn't get along well with the chief. The vast majority of the dead belonged to the squads under his command, and now that everyone was dead, the order to retreat was given out of nowhere.
If he didn't pick a fight with the chief, he would be doing a grave disservice to his fallen subordinates.
Like a raging bear, the deputy chief stormed toward the chief's office with heavy, thunderous footsteps.
The blonde beauty perked up her ears to listen for a moment, her eyes rolling in thought before she manipulated her joints and folded herself into a shape scarcely imaginable for a human being.
Standing one meter seventy tall, she compressed herself completely into a space roughly the size of a 24-inch luggage case.
Once crammed inside, she even reached out and pulled a piece of miscellaneous debris over herself as camouflage.
Ignoring the protests of the people outside, the deputy chief burst through the door and immediately spotted the chief lying lifeless on the floor.
He decisively called others inside to jointly inspect the chief's condition.
The result was painfully obvious: the chief was dead, and the body was still warm.
The guards at the door stated that only a tall, blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauty had visited; due to the previous chaos, they couldn't remember whether she had left or not.
The room's layout was visible at a glance, with nowhere capable of hiding an adult.
The deputy chief stood in silence for a moment before several other deputy chiefs, having received the news, hurried over as well.
The office instantly became bustling with activity.
Down in the third-layer cargo hold, the massive wave of surging enemies suddenly withdrawing left only Baitian grinning foolishly, while Long Er and Qin Qing both sensed the oddity of the situation.
Just moments ago, the enemy had been dead-set on exterminating them and crushing them by sheer force of numbers; why would they suddenly fall back?
Qin Qing thought of something, his tone resolute, "It's Natalie."
"Your third team member?" Long Er grabbed Li Momo, hauling the person directly onto his shoulder, "Let's relocate first, we'll talk on the move."
As the group hurried through the third level, Qin Qing didn't forget to answer the senior's question, "She is our team member. She's embedded among the medical staff and is exceptionally skilled at disguise and assassination."
"Isn't your teammate named Cuihua?" Mofei asked in bewilderment.
"An affectionate nickname, one I gave her," Baitian said with a proud smile.
Mofei muttered under his breath, "Then it's true love that she hasn't slaughtered you yet."
From Natalie to Cuihua, from Qin Qing to Qing, just how obsessed was this guy with giving people nicknames?
The crucial part was that none of them were normal.
