Chapter 89: Did I tell you to leave?
Chai Jin was still smiling. “Thank you for the warning.”
He Kai, irritated and embarrassed, snapped at Guo Minghao, “What are you still doing here? Making a fool of yourself!”
With that, he swept a hand through the air, and the dozen-odd people he had brought from the dormitory filed out in a line.
The people gathered outside also made way.
Everyone thought that was the end of it.
But could it really end there?
Guo Minghao and He Kai walked at the back of the crowd with no inkling of danger.
Yet just as they reached the doorway, Chai Jin moved.
He charged forward, seized the backs of both men’s shirts with his hands, and yanked them backward.
Then he kicked the door shut.
“Liu Shan, lock the door and beat the dogs!”
The dazed Liu Shan snapped to his senses, rushed over, and locked the door at once.
Outside in the corridor, the people who had already been about to disperse were all stunned.
“What did the tough guy in there just say?”
“Lock the door and beat the dogs?”
“Which two dogs? Young Master He? Guo Minghao?”
Before anyone could react, Guo Minghao’s screams were already coming from inside.
The dumbstruck workers hurriedly pounded on the door.
“What are you doing? Open the door right now!”
“Do you even know who Young Master He is? Don’t be stupid. If you lay a hand on him, you’ll never get away with it!”
A few others kicked at the door in a frenzy.
But clearly someone on the other side had braced it with a table.
The atmosphere outside grew tense in an instant.
Someone immediately shouted, “What are you all standing around for? Go find the security office!”
And just like that, chaos broke out outside.
Good news travels little, bad news travels far.
The story that Young Master He had been trapped and beaten spread through the whole building at once.
A few people who loved a spectacle ran about telling everyone they met.
More and more people came.
Not one of them offered to help knock on the door. The whole scene was thick with the scent of gossip and amusement.
Young Master He’s conduct in the factory had long left many people displeased.
Soon, a great wave of factory security guards came surging out.
With such a commotion, how could no one in the office building have noticed?
Chen Ni had just come out of a meeting.
She sat down in her executive chair, exhausted. She took off her high heels and relaxed her stocking-clad feet on the floor.
By chance, she glanced outside.
A large group of security guards in the factory grounds was rushing toward the dormitory building.
At that scale, something serious had clearly happened.
She quickly stood, slipped her heels back on, and headed downstairs.
After hurrying down, she stopped one of the factory guards. “Wait. What happened over at the dormitory building?”
Seeing that it was Chen Ni, the guard hurriedly answered, “Hello, Miss.”
“Enough. I’m asking what happened,” Chen Ni said, unable to hide her impatience.
The guard quickly replied, “Young Master He was trapped in a room and beaten by the workers from the assembly line group.”
“We still don’t know how badly he was hurt.”
“Miss, I need to go support them first.”
With that, he trotted toward the dormitory building.
Chen Ni quickly understood as well and hurried after him.
Back at the dormitory, the security personnel were still kicking at the door like mad.
The iron door had even been kicked out of shape.
From inside, screams rose from time to time, and no one could tell whose they were.
The guards outside were as anxious as ants on a hot pan.
If something happened to Young Master He, how could their security office possibly stand to profit from it? After all, Director He had only one son.
Just as the atmosphere grew unbearably tense, someone shouted, “Miss is here!”
The scene fell abruptly silent, and the crowd quickly parted to make a path.
All eyes turned to Chen Ni, her face cold as ice.
When she reached the door, she asked the security staff, “Who’s living in this dormitory?”
The guard answered quickly, “Three people: Chai Jin, Liu Shan, and Huang Dongjiang.”
“Huang Dongjiang already resigned this morning. We have every reason to believe this was a premeditated act of revenge against the factory.”
Chen Ni’s fair little face flickered with surprise, and she instinctively blurted, “Transformer?”
The security staff were baffled and had no idea what the miss meant by “transformer.”
Realizing her lapse, Chen Ni flashed a trace of embarrassment.
“I’ll handle this. All of you step back.”
The guards hurriedly gave way.
At the doorway, Chen Ni tapped on the door. “Trans— Chai Jin, it’s Chen Ni.”
“Open the door first. If you’ve suffered any grievance, tell me. Don’t act on impulse. If anyone gets hurt, you’ll be in trouble too.”
Only then did the people in the corridor suddenly understand.
This Chai Jin—wasn’t he the worker who said he wanted to win over the miss?
What a bold man, daring to court someone ordinary men would never dare approach.
It had caused rumors to fly all over the factory.
The security staff also realized the matter was not so easy to settle.
This was no revenge against the factory at all. Everyone in the factory knew that He Kai and the miss had grown up together. This was a battle of love.
No one said another word.
After Chen Ni finished speaking, the screams inside stopped.
Then the door was opened from within.
The onlookers outside craned their necks and rose on tiptoe, all eager to see the sight of Young Master He being trampled on the floor.
But to their disappointment, He Kai was unscathed, sitting motionless beside the table.
Next to him sat Chai Jin, his expression cool and indifferent.
As for the man opposite them, Guo Minghao was clutching one bent finger, snot and tears streaming down his face.
Who knew what the fellow had just gone through.
Chen Ni hurried in, frowning. “What happened?”
Chai Jin gave a casual smile. “You’ve probably been worried lately about who the traitor is, haven’t you?”
“I helped you with that. Got it out of him. It’s this guy here.”
“He even wanted to frame me.”
He Kai’s face had gone somewhat pale, and sweat beaded his forehead. Clearly, he had just been shocked by Chai Jin’s methods of interrogation.
Chen Ni looked at He Kai again. “Is that how it is?”
With so many people watching, of course the head of the company had to keep up appearances.
He Kai quickly regained his composure. “It’s been found out. It was my cousin’s doing. Someone, take him to the police station.”
Guo Minghao was so terrified his soul nearly flew out of him. Crawling like a dead dog to He Kai’s feet, he begged, “Brother, brother, I was wrong. Forgive me this once. I’ll pay compensation. I’ll cover the factory’s losses, I swear I will.”
He Kai quickly shoved him away. “This isn’t a small matter. The board already knows. Besides, you even beat up the whistleblower. I can’t protect you.”
He got to his feet at once, clearly trying to distance himself.
Guo Minghao, seeing no way out, flew into a rage. “He Kai, I’m your own cousin! You’re really helping outsiders screw me over like this?”
He Kai could no longer be bothered to stay. He let out a cold snort. “You did this to yourself. No one can save you.”
“You lied to me for so long. It’s already generous of me not to make trouble for you.”
“Take him away!”
The security staff outside hurried in and hauled off the cursing and shouting Guo Minghao.
Just as He Kai was preparing to leave as well,
the silent Chai Jin suddenly lifted his icy gaze to him.
“Did I say you could leave?”
