Five million!

Gasp!

Yue Lin couldn’t help but take in a deep breath, secretly marveling at Luo Yongjiang’s extravagance. But then, upon reflection, he could understand.

The agony of losing a son.

Anyone in his place would have gone mad.

“As long as he dies, the five million is yours!” Luo Yongjiang repeated, his voice hoarse and sinister. “I just want him dead!”

The tone sent a chill through the air. Yue Lin gritted his teeth. Although his superiors wanted Chen Feng captured alive, the thought of five million in cash right before his eyes—enough to live a lifetime of indulgence—made him waver. All he needed to do was crook a finger, say the word “arrest,” and everything would fall into place.

“Agreed,” Yue Lin nodded.

Hearing Yue Lin’s answer, Luo Yongjiang broke into a cruel smile. “Then, I leave everything in your hands!”

Yue Lin didn’t reply, just waved his hand coldly. “Find out which ward Chen Feng is in. Move as soon as you have it!”

Meanwhile—

“Sister Xiao, you’re here!” Chen Feng wasn’t in the ward, but in the corridor. As the elevator doors opened, he saw Xiao Yu and Lu Rui step out together. Chen Feng didn’t know Lu Rui, only assumed he was accompanying Xiao Yu.

Seeing Xiao Yu, Fang Yue was momentarily stunned, secretly wondering, “Could Xiao Yu be the helper Chen Feng mentioned?”

She’d met Xiao Yu twice before—once at the Tianding Restaurant, and once at Chen Feng’s family’s eatery. Both times, they hadn’t spoken, and there was no real acquaintance between them. She only knew that Chen Feng was planning some collaboration with Xiao Yu.

As this woman stood before her, Fang Yue was suddenly overcome by a sense of inferiority. In terms of looks, temperament, and status, she was nowhere near a match for Xiao Yu.

Xiao Yu, however, paid her no heed. Her gaze remained fixed on Chen Feng, studying him for three seconds before sighing softly. “Little brother, you really are bold! Murder—such a thing, and you actually did it!”

“If I hadn’t killed him, he would have killed me, and harmed my family. I had no way out. Killing was my only option.” Chen Feng’s voice was calm, without a trace of guilt, as though it were only natural.

“If I hadn’t stopped you, what would you have done?” Xiao Yu suddenly asked.

“Wipe out his whole family. Leave no root behind.” Chen Feng’s answer was succinct, his words carrying a chilling, murderous intent.

Gasp!

Lu Rui, standing nearby, couldn’t help but suck in a breath. Since arriving, he’d been observing Chen Feng. Now, it seemed Chen Feng was like a little demon, hard to imagine as the creator of those famous beef balls.

Still, Lu Rui sensed that Chen Feng acted decisively, not one to hesitate.

“And this is?” Chen Feng’s gaze fell on Lu Rui, curiosity in his voice.

“He’s the richest man in Jiang Province,” Xiao Yu said with a smile, introducing him briefly. “He’s come specifically to see you.”

“To see me?” Chen Feng was puzzled. “For what? Didn’t you bring him here, sister?”

Xiao Yu chuckled. “Oh, I don’t have that much influence!”

At that, Lu Rui stepped forward, extending his right hand to Chen Feng. “You’re Chen Feng, right? I came especially to ask you to make a batch of your special beef balls.”

“Eh?” Chen Feng was dumbfounded, staring at Lu Rui in surprise. “You want me to make beef balls? You came all this way just for that?”

Lu Rui nodded. “That’s right. To tell you the truth, my son has anorexia and can’t eat anything. But after eating your beef balls, his condition improved greatly. The doctor suggested he continue, ideally making your beef balls his staple food for a while. I’ve already heard about what happened to your family today. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it for you!”

“Wait, hold on, my head’s spinning.” Chen Feng pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling as if he were dreaming. His gaze flicked to Lu Ran, who looked pale and listless, almost as if suffering from long-term malnutrition.

There was a similar plot in “God of Cookery,” where Stephen Chow cured a group of anorexic patients with his signature beef balls, marking the start of his legendary comeback. Back then, Chen Feng thought it was just a joke to highlight how delicious the beef balls were, never taking it seriously. But who would have thought his own version would have such miraculous effects, actually curing anorexia?

Lu Rui, meanwhile, waited patiently, his anxiety gone now that Chen Feng was before him.

“No problem at all!” Chen Feng responded quickly. “Whenever you need, I can make them. But I want to know: how can you guarantee my safety?”

Lu Rui smiled, looking Chen Feng in the eye. “Nothing happened tonight. Do you understand?”

Xiao Yu also shot Chen Feng a meaningful glance. Chen Feng said no more, only nodded seriously. “Alright. I trust you.”

Clang!

Just then, the elevator doors slammed open. Immediately, Chen Feng saw more than a dozen fully-armed paramilitary officers storm in, their guns trained on him and his companions.

“Chen Feng, you’re suspected of intentional homicide. Put your hands on your head and get down, now!” Yue Lin instantly recognized Chen Feng, having seen his photo before.

Chen Feng was momentarily stunned. To be honest, never before had he faced so many guns pointed at him.

“Hurry, hands up!” Lu Rui barked, his finger resting lightly on the trigger, the muzzle almost imperceptibly aimed at Chen Feng’s heart.

Chen Feng didn’t move, only looked at Lu Rui, curious how he would handle the situation. Lu Rui, for his part, felt his face flush with embarrassment. He’d just promised Chen Feng that nothing had happened, and now here they were, guns pointed at them.

“Lower your weapons!” Lu Rui suddenly snapped, his voice loud and commanding. “Put the guns down! Right now!”

But Yue Lin didn’t seem to hear him. All his attention was focused on Chen Feng, gripped by a single thought: Kill this guy and five million is mine!

His finger tightened on the trigger.

He was confident: as soon as he fired, Chen Feng would be dead. But at the very instant he pulled the trigger, Chen Feng suddenly moved with uncanny speed, kicking the muzzle upward.

Bang!

A bullet slammed into the ceiling. Before Yue Lin could react, his hands were empty, and a cold, black barrel was pressed to his head. “I advise you not to move,” Chen Feng said.

The surrounding officers froze. The change had happened so fast they couldn’t respond before Chen Feng had subdued Yue Lin.

Yue Lin’s heart pounded with shock. “Did this kid see through me? Did he know I wanted to kill him?”

Xiao Yu watched without moving, only withdrawing her right foot ever so slightly.

Lu Rui was furious. Just a split second more, and Chen Feng would have been killed by this madman. He wasn’t blind—he’d seen clearly that Yue Lin had intended to shoot Chen Feng on the spot. If not for Chen Feng’s quick reflexes, he would already be dead.

“Good. Very good,” Lu Rui muttered.

Yue Lin didn’t care what Lu Rui said, only glared at Chen Feng and shouted, “Chen Feng, what are you doing? Let me tell you, you’re interfering with an arrest. Do you know what consequences that will bring? Drop your weapon and come with us!”

“I’ve crippled a precinct chief and killed a man. Do you think killing one more is such a big deal?” Chen Feng grinned at Yue Lin. “Tell me, do you think I’d dare kill you?”

Fear flickered in Yue Lin’s eyes, but he shouted, “Fine! Go ahead, let’s see if you dare shoot me! Brothers, aim at him—if he fires, gun him down!”

No need for orders; all guns were already trained on Chen Feng.

Yue Lin looked at Chen Feng with utter arrogance. “You’re dead, kid. No one can save you now!” Murderous intent flashed in Chen Feng’s eyes. After killing Luo Wenhao, something inside him had been unleashed; he no longer valued other people’s lives. But he really couldn’t kill Yue Lin now—if he did, he’d be riddled with bullets on the spot. Yet, he couldn’t lower the gun either, so the standoff continued.

“Kid, drop the gun now, or your friends will die. Two of you, go kill his parents!” Yue Lin snarled.

“You dare!” Chen Feng suddenly jammed the muzzle into Yue Lin’s mouth.

“Damn you all! Anyone who fires is dead!” Lu Rui was truly enraged now. All his usual elegance was gone; he was completely ignored, and these bastards actually dared try to kill Chen Feng right in front of him.

If Chen Feng died, who would save his son?

Xiao Yu glanced at the furious Lu Rui, then looked at Yue Lin with deep pity. She couldn’t help but sigh softly, “This man is truly courting death.”
