Chapter Ninety-One: A Menacing Aura! (Third Update—Please Vote for the Monthly Ticket)
The turmoil of the college entrance examination had caused quite a stir, yet after the commotion, life eventually settled back into its quiet rhythm. Chen Feng's point tally had increased significantly, but it still fell a little short of his ideal. The first time brought surprise, the second time could still amaze, but gradually, even that feeling faded away.
Chen Feng’s days became more tranquil as well. School had let out for vacation, granting him more leisure than before. The only regret was that Fang Yue had not yet started her break. She was about to enter her final year of high school, so the school had shortened her holiday.
Recently, Chen Feng had been searching for an opportunity to administer the Superhuman Soldier Serum to his parents and Fang Yue, but he was at a loss as to how he could do so without them noticing.
After those few eventful days, his parents wanted to continue running their small shop on Four Seas Street. Though they were getting on in years, they were only in their forties—still full of energy. If he forced them into idleness, they would likely be unwilling.
Chen Feng had considered asking Xiao Yu to find work for his parents, but he knew their limitations well—their education was not high, and even if they went to Xiao Yu’s company, they would only qualify for menial positions at best, or else be given sinecures. In terms of perspective and experience, they were simply not up to bearing great responsibilities.
Since they wanted to keep the store, Chen Feng wouldn’t object. As long as his parents were happy, that was enough.
At dawn, Chen Feng awoke from his meditative state of energy cultivation. Ever since fully assimilating the Superhuman Soldier Serum, he no longer needed sleep. Each morning, he would awaken from his practice. At this moment, he could faintly sense a gentle, warm current stirring within his dantian.
“I’ve finally cultivated inner strength!” Chen Feng murmured to himself, unable to hide the excitement on his face.
But wait!
He suddenly slapped his forehead and muttered, “How foolish of me! Why am I working so hard to cultivate this inner power myself?”
With that, he waved his hand to open the Grand Extraction System and quickly said, “System, show me An Ran!”
Since the end of the college entrance exams, he hadn’t seen An Ran again—not even during the university application process. He didn’t know where she’d gone, but he wasn’t particularly concerned. At this point, his only real interest in her lay in her fifteen years of pure inner power.
“System, extract An Ran’s fifteen years of pure inner strength!”
Without hesitation, Chen Feng gave the command. Instantly, he felt the gentle current in his dantian surge and expand, transforming in the blink of an eye into a powerful, robust inner force.
“So this is the subtlety of inner power?” Chen Feng narrowed his eyes, savoring the sensation of energy coursing through his body.
As the inner force circulated, he could vaguely sense his organs and bones being enveloped in a soothing warmth—a sensation like spring rain nurturing all things. In this process, it seemed his body was undergoing subtle changes.
His physique had already been strong beyond compare, having reached a certain pinnacle. Yet, this thread of inner force made him feel there was still room to advance even further.
Curious as a child with a new toy, Chen Feng experimented with the uses of inner force. Gradually, he realized it wasn’t as magical as he’d imagined—it didn’t enhance his attack power, but could greatly increase his defense. When he concentrated his inner force on the membrane just beneath his skin, he could clearly feel it becoming as hard as steel.
“System!” Suddenly recalling something, Chen Feng quickly said, “Continue extracting An Ran’s inner power!”
“Extraction failed. The host may only extract and use it once himself,” came the system’s cold voice.
Hearing this, Chen Feng could only give a bitter smile. Of course, the system wouldn’t let him extract An Ran’s inner power so easily. If repeated extraction were possible, he could just stack power endlessly and become invincible.
“But just because I can’t use it myself doesn’t mean others can’t,” Chen Feng thought. He instantly commanded, “System, extract An Ran’s inner force twice and transfer it to my parents!”
Beep! Beep!
The system sounded twice, and the next moment, images of his parents appeared on the interface as two halos swiftly merged into their bodies. Chen Ze and Xiao Sufen both shuddered slightly, feeling a warm current rise from their lower abdomens and spread throughout their bodies.
“The Superhuman Soldier Serum’s reaction would be too intense,” Chen Feng muttered. “But this way, they shouldn’t feel much of anything.”
Stretching comfortably, Chen Feng flipped off the bed in one smooth motion. He began pondering when he should strengthen his parents with skills from Wing Chun or Jeet Kune Do. That way, if they ever encountered another situation like the one with Luo Wenhao, they wouldn’t be so easily bullied.
Just then, his phone rang on the nightstand.
Chen Feng glanced at the caller ID and was surprised to see it was Lu Rui. He answered with a smile, “Uncle Lu, did you need something from me?”
“Mm!” Lu Rui chuckled, “So, top scholar, you’ve really been in the limelight these days!”
“Oh, not at all,” Chen Feng replied modestly. “Is there something you need?”
“Yes, a small favor,” Lu Rui replied. “Since it’s winter break, I was hoping you could tutor Lu Ran. He fell behind in his studies after being sick for a while, and none of the other tutors can get through to him, but he listens to you. I figured you could help him catch up.”
“Tutor him?” Chen Feng was momentarily speechless. He knew very well that “falling behind due to illness” was just an excuse. The real reason was that Lu Ran was a spoiled rich kid who’d never taken his studies seriously. If his grades were good, that would be the real surprise.
“What’s wrong, don’t have time?” Lu Rui asked.
“I do, I do,” Chen Feng replied, smiling. “Uncle Lu, since you’re asking, of course I’ll make time. When do you want me to start?”
He had no intention of refusing—tutoring Lu Ran was no trouble at all. In fact, he wouldn’t even have to work hard; he could simply extract the necessary abilities from someone else.
“Anytime is fine!” Lu Rui laughed. “I’m heading abroad in a few days, so you can just stay at my place.”
“All right!” Chen Feng agreed, not standing on ceremony. Even though Lu Rui was the richest man in Jiang Province, Chen Feng didn’t feel the need to be overly polite. With the Grand Extraction System, he considered himself the most unique person in the world. No matter how capable Lu Rui was, Chen Feng was confident he would surpass him in time.
After hanging up, Chen Feng walked into the living room, where his parents were already up. They were still puzzled by the sudden warmth they felt inside, but Chen Feng just smiled at their confusion.
If they didn’t know what was happening, all the better.
After breakfast, Chen Feng drove his parents to Four Seas Street. His first profits from his partnership with Xiao Yu had already been deposited into his account, and he hadn’t hesitated to buy an Audi, even pulling strings to get himself a driver’s license.
Every morning, he would drive his parents to their shop on Four Seas Street. It was still their old location, but now it had been transformed into a three-story building. Lu Rui had bought the entire property from the ground floor to the third, remodeled it, and gifted it to Chen Feng’s parents.
As for the previous owner of the spicy hotpot shop, he had slunk away. The three-story building was lavishly decorated. The shop opened at seven in the morning and closed at nine at night. Besides Chen Feng’s parents, several attractive female servers had been hired.
The menu had expanded beyond the original juicy meatballs to include all kinds of snacks. However, from seven to nine each evening, the special deal was still Chen Feng’s signature meatballs, handmade by himself. This was also the busiest time for customers.
After parking the car, Chen Feng accompanied his parents upstairs. Every three days, he would come to make meatballs himself, and today happened to be his turn.
After washing his hands in the restroom, Chen Feng was just stepping out when he saw a group of burly men walk into his family’s shop. His pupils narrowed instantly as he sensed an intense murderous aura.
This was an instinct he’d acquired after extracting Preston’s gun-fighting technique—the ability to immediately detect killing intent in others.
These men radiated it strongly, clearly having taken lives before—more than once.
One of the thugs walked straight toward his father.
Seeing this, Chen Feng quickly strode forward and slapped the man on the shoulder. In a calm voice, he asked, “Friend, what do you want?”
As soon as he finished speaking, the man spun around, and with a flash of cold steel, a gleaming blade slashed straight for Chen Feng’s throat.
