Chapter 145: Let All the Nobles Work for Me!

Stop the scroll.

Huang Yunshuo clipped a screenshot of the chat on Channel One.

“5220 is making the rounds! Our heartthrob is mighty, domineering, and handsome!”

“5220 is making the rounds! Make way, idle spectators—move, move, move!”

“Our heartthrob is incredible. 5220 has come to see you.”

“My kidney-hacking big boss is amazing. 5220 has arrived!”

“5220 is making the rounds.”

…

“Someone’s here to cause trouble!”

That was Huang Yunshuo’s first reaction.

Which streamer had come to raid his room?

And whoever it was had to be a major streamer. Otherwise, there was no way they could rally so many people. The barrage in Huang Yunshuo’s room was so dense that even with a popularity count of one hundred thousand, it could create the effect of four or five hundred thousand viewers.

There had been nearly seven hundred thousand people watching just now. How many would it take to drown out their barrage entirely? At least a million, surely?

Why say over a million instead of several million?

Because the viewers who stayed in a stream and the viewers who followed a streamer on a room visit were two entirely different sorts.

Among those who stayed in a stream, perhaps only one out of every two people would bother sending a message, and even then, only occasionally. That was assuming an exceptionally active room.

But those who followed a streamer on a room visit?

If you came all this way and didn’t send a message, what the hell were you visiting for?

So if exactly a million people had come, at least eight or nine hundred thousand of them would have to be posting messages. The rest would merely be there to watch the spectacle. Only then could such an explosive burst overwhelm the considerable barrage in the original room.

He glanced at the popularity count.

Good heavens—2.09 million. In other words, more than 1.3 million people had poured in all at once.

That made the other streamer quite formidable. Even if only half of their audience had followed, they were still a major streamer with two or three million viewers online.

“Looks like most of these are girls’ usernames. I’ll take another look.”

The usernames were all feminine, things like Oh My, Candy Orange, Ranran Then, and Weak Little Yandere. Huang Yunshuo casually entered two subchannels and clipped more of the barrage.

“5220…”

“5220 is here…”

“Tremble before my 5220…”

“Stop! Don’t spam anymore!” Huang Yunshuo hurriedly shouted.

It was obvious that many of his own viewers were already furious. They had gotten worked up and were joining in, flooding the chat with messages of their own.

When Huang Yunshuo had first arrived, the barrage from 5220 had silenced 02825 completely. Now, however, the audience of 02825 had fought their way back, reclaiming somewhere between a quarter and a third of the barrage.

“Where did these stinking bitches come from? Get out!”

“Damn, you scared the hell out of me! I nearly got kicked out of my life-support pod.”

“What stream is this? How dare they act so arrogantly. Should we hit back?”

…

Huang Yunshuo had shouted in desperation, without seriously expecting anyone to stop.

A room visit was a way for streamers to drop in on one another.

The original purpose behind such visits was rather intriguing.

There were friendly visits—for example, when major streamers dropped by one another’s rooms. Their fans would trade insults in the chat, then leave as freely as they had arrived. Later, the favor would be returned, and everyone would have a wonderful time. For strengthening the relationships between streamers and their fans, it was practically perfect.

There were also visits from major streamers to smaller ones.

In an instant, tens or hundreds of thousands, even millions, of viewers might flood into a small streamer’s room. If the smaller streamer seized the opportunity, they could gain hundreds of thousands of followers in a single burst, sprout wings, and soar into the open sky—leaving behind their former life of poverty and obscurity to reach the summit of life.

A visit from a major streamer to a small one was a favor, whether intentional or not, and there were plenty of subtleties and hidden motives involved.

Then there were malicious visits.

For example, when two streamers were on bad terms, one might suddenly send a huge crowd into the other’s room while they were streaming peacefully. The newcomers would flood the chat with messages until the interface became unusable and the viewing experience collapsed.

Some streamers became addicted to it. Whenever their mortal enemy went live, they would immediately charge in. Over time, both streamers were ruined. Their rooms were constantly filled with fans from both sides, and every broadcast became a battlefield of insults. Any possibility of reconciliation was long gone.

Unexpectedly, his words proved effective. To his astonishment, the barrage really did begin to thin out, although it was still nearly as dense as a white screen.

“Whose stream is 5220’s?” Huang Yunshuo asked.

The barrage flashed past in a blur. He felt a little depressed; there was no way to read anything like this.

“Could one of the big spenders activate a noble rank? Not one of the lower ones—an earl would be best. An earl’s messages can be pinned to the top of the room for three seconds.”

Huang Yunshuo asked out of desperation, without truly expecting anyone to do it.

After all, activating the Earl rank cost one hundred thousand credit points. Moreover, the ranks on the self-media platform were separate from those on Starry Sky Live. There were far too few streamers one could watch with the rank here, making it a terrible bargain.

The instant he finished speaking, the screen was suddenly covered by a huge, eye-catching golden crest.

[Level 0 Lin Lin Lin Unni has activated the “Earl” noble rank in the current room and obtained the most exalted noble privileges.]

Someone had really activated it!

Huang Yunshuo remembered Lin Lin Lin Unni. The last time Starry Sky Rourou had gone to his room, he had muted everyone. Many of his sharp-witted fans had sent gifts with attached messages to stir things up.

Lin Lin Lin Unni had sent three yachts in one go, showing particular interest in his equipment-care spray.

Now she had followed him to the new stream and, to show such generous support, activated the Earl rank. Huang Yunshuo’s opinion of her was quite favorable.

[Lin Lin Lin Unni has been appointed room moderator by the streamer.]

Huang Yunshuo had instinctively made Lin Lin Lin Unni a moderator when a second golden crest rose into view, effortlessly pushing down the first crest, which otherwise could have remained on-screen longer.

[Level 17 The President’s Punching Bag has activated the “Marquis” noble rank in the current room and obtained the most exalted noble privileges.]

Huang Yunshuo still remembered the young man who had once demanded to know why he had muted Daddy. At the time, the boy had been level zero when watching him and had never entered any other streamer’s room. In other words, all seventeen levels he had gained here—and all the gifts behind them—must have been given to Huang Yunshuo.

A true fan indeed!

The Marquis rank was even more expensive, costing three hundred thousand credit points. A quarter of that went to Huang Yunshuo, which came to seventy-five thousand credit points—or only five hundred copper coins, technically. Still, streaming and gaming were two entirely different matters.
