Chapter Four: The Frost Hawk, Master of Both Near and Far
“Congratulations, player! You have obtained the unique hidden class, Frost Hawk. Due to the extreme rarity of this class, there are no available class mentors or dedicated class questlines. Everything must be discovered on your own.”
“Frost Hawk! Just the name alone sounds formidable. Let’s see what this is all about.”
Suppressing his excitement, Huang Yunshuo hurriedly opened his character panel.
Idiot, Level 1
Human, Bloodthirst Value: 0
Class: Frost Hawk
Constitution: 10
Strength: 15
Agility: 12
Intelligence: 3
Health: 50
Mana: 15
Attack: 3
Defense: 1
“Constitution remains unchanged, but the growth in strength and agility is insane, especially strength!”
Ignoring his pitiful 3 points in intelligence, Huang Yunshuo’s spirits soared.
Constitution ties directly to resistance and health, strength is directly linked to attack power, and agility is the most critical attribute—not only does it affect movement speed and reflexes, but also critical hit rate, critical damage, and resistance to critical hits.
Noticing the growth in strength and agility, Huang Yunshuo knew he had struck gold.
He still didn’t know exactly what kind of class Frost Hawk was, but based solely on these two attribute growths, it was undoubtedly one of the most elite hidden classes!
Frost Hawk Class Description:
Companion to the clouds and the eagles, soaring through the heavens, sovereign of the skies. With a rocket launcher in hand, it dominates at range as an unrivaled slayer. With a golden lance, it charges the front lines as a king of close combat!
Class-exclusive equipment: Rocket Launcher (required), Thruster (required), Alloy Battle Armor (required), Core Engine, Evasion Module, Energy Barrier Generator.
“A flying ranged class, plus a close-combat class wielding a lance? What the hell is this?”
Huang Yunshuo stood stunned, his thoughts in chaos.
He knew that Reforged Era differed from Glacial Glory, certain to incorporate elements of technology. Still, when this hidden class with its intense sci-fi flavor landed in his lap, he was left utterly speechless.
While others wielded bows and swords, he would be wielding a rocket launcher.
While others boasted about their imposing mounts on the ground, he could leisurely soar hundreds of meters into the sky.
While archers and other ranged classes were practically helpless in close combat, he could simply grab his lance and charge into the fray…
Wasn’t this a bug?
Fine, let the particle storm do as it pleases—Brother Huang doesn’t care anymore!
He laughed aloud, head thrown back, but the surrounding players stared at him as if he were an imbecile. Huang Yunshuo cursed, “What are you staring at? Go grind your levels!”
Amidst a barrage of curses from the other players, Huang Yunshuo made a hasty escape.
“The materials needed for the thruster and alloy armor are a real headache.”
Staring at the lengthy list of crafting materials, Huang Yunshuo felt a wave of fatigue and shifted his attention to the rocket launcher.
In this era of destitute newbies, flying was out of the question and armor wasn’t even a consideration. If only he could craft the weapon—even standing on the ground, blasting away with a rocket launcher would be pure delight.
“The rocket launcher is a bit easier, but I don’t even have a single copper coin in my inventory.”
Huang Yunshuo let out a sigh. This class was clearly a money pit—even with a stroke of luck, he was still stuck with the same miserable chicken-killing grind as everyone else.
As for quests… At least here in the novice village, they were basically nonexistent.
Leveling was slow enough as it was. Expecting to find quests here that rewarded dozens or even hundreds of experience points? Forget it—just go to sleep.
Together with scores of passionate youths and energetic girls, Huang Yunshuo dove into the flock of chickens, throwing a punch at a wounded chick.
-4!
Boosted by his high constitution and agility, his damage doubled, much to Huang Yunshuo’s delight.
Before the enraged chick could retaliate, he darted into the crowd, quickly weaving two or three spots away.
“Aah!”
A wail rose as a low-health player was pecked into a flash of white by the chick.
Watching the chick strut back, Huang Yunshuo felt a secret satisfaction.
These idiot chickens—so the aggro system was really this simple.
One peck at someone else and it forgot its previous target; this was his chance.
Excited, he charged in and kicked the chick, sending it flying.
“Cheep!”
Though the chick was small, Huang Yunshuo’s heavy kick only sent it two or three meters away.
Another -4 floated up, and the chick, furious, rushed him again. Huang Yunshuo repeated his trick, once more vanishing into the crowd.
A player, seeing the chick approach, reflexively swung a punch—thus earning the chick’s wrath and taking Huang Yunshuo’s aggro for him.
Huang Yunshuo chased the chick relentlessly. Though the novice battlefield was packed to the brim, with his 15 points in strength, no one could block his path—regardless of gender, anyone in his way was shoved aside, drawing a storm of complaints.
The hapless chick, now marked, took kicks from Huang Yunshuo whenever possible, who always found a scapegoat among the crowd.
With so many players, Huang Yunshuo could always melt into the masses, but the chick could not always pursue. This was his confidence in playing so brazenly.
When the chick was down to just 3 HP, Huang Yunshuo’s excitement peaked.
He lunged, punching the adorable little head.
With a pitiful cry, the chick collapsed into a corpse.
Huang Yunshuo picked up three copper coins and a tuft of chick down, watching his experience rise to 10/100—sheer bliss.
“Heh heh, this is a good way to level up.”
Glancing around shiftily, he wondered if anyone had caught on to his sneaky method.
But to his relief, the novice village was packed, and with him darting everywhere and all the chicks looking identical, there was no way anyone would notice his ploy.
Employing the same tactics, Huang Yunshuo killed another seven chicks in a row—overall, a perfect run.
“I’m exhausted. Eight chickens, three whole hours!”
He collapsed onto the grass, panting, and checked the time—he felt utterly defeated.
Over twenty minutes per chicken on average—not only did he have to avoid these damned birds, but he also had to squeeze through the crowd, expending both energy and time. What a grueling ordeal.
“If it’s this tough for me, I really pity everyone else.”
He lit a candle for his fellow players in his heart, took off his Hurricane helmet, and stretched.
The Mirror was a small, privately modified armed spaceship, forty meters long, twelve wide, and ten high. It had two levels: the upper for living quarters, and the lower for piloting, work, and storage.
Two years ago, while gathering resources, the Mirror was struck by a small meteor coming from behind the star, leaving the ship battered and full of holes. The captain and many veteran crew members, unable to evacuate in time, died on the resource planet.
Now, only nine young people remained aboard the Mirror, managing the ship’s affairs together with a strong sense of camaraderie.
“This cramped little room—how is it any different from a damned prison cell?”
Huang Yunshuo smacked the metal wall hard and cursed.
