Chapter 143: The Charge of Susie
The test results are out. This is carbonado alloy, a special high-grade alloy that can only be produced by Angel International. However, it is mostly used in fields such as aerospace and aviation, and rarely for military purposes.
Marcus frowned.
According to the information just gathered, the suspect wore black armor featuring a bat symbol on the chest, and spoke with an indistinguishable, synthesized metallic voice.
Coupled with the fact that this bullet likely originated from Angel International, the answer was already quite simple.
What puzzled him, however, was what the motive for the crimes could possibly be.
This was definitely a targeted hunt, but what on earth could drive someone to harbor such deep hatred for these people, and to go so far as to violate the bottom line of the law in order to carry out a hunting spree?
They quickly rushed to Angel International, but the suspect, Michael, had already resigned. The polite young woman at the reception desk turned them away, and they were not even qualified to meet the current controller of Angel International.
"What do we do now?"
Mike looked toward Marcus.
"There is still one person who might know some clues."
They arrived at a shooting club and found Susie, who was practicing her marksmanship.
"Hello, Miss Susie. We are Federal Bureau of Investigation detectives."
Susie glanced at them and said, "I have a legal firearm license, and this is a legally approved training facility regulated by the government. You have no jurisdiction over me here."
Clearly, Susie had no interest in interacting with them.
Marcus stated directly, "We are not here to arrest you; we just want to ask you a few questions."
"Not interested. Get lost."
Mike could no longer hold back his temper. What kind of attitude was this?
Just as he was about to flare up, Marcus stopped him.
Marcus said, "We are investigating your brother, Michael. Surely you have something to say about that?"
"He is not my brother."
Susie angrily pointed her gun at the two men and said with fury, "He is just a stray bastard adopted by my parents. He is a jinx who only brings disaster to everyone around him."
Mike felt a bit intimidated with a gun pointed at him, and besides, this woman's emotional state was clearly abnormal. Heaven knows if she might open fire in a fit of rage.
Marcus remained calm as he said, "Miss Susie, please calm down. Assaulting law enforcement officers is a felony. If you don't want to go to prison, please put the gun down."
Susie glared at him, then pivoted the gun back toward the target and emptied the remaining bullets, venting her dissatisfaction.
"I have nothing to say. I'm not close to him."
Marcus smiled, then said calmly, "Don't you even want to know what crimes he has committed?"
Susie finally grew interested. She looked at Marcus and immediately asked, "What did he do this time? Is it enough to get him the death penalty?"
Marcus: "..."
Mike: "..."
Just how deep-seated was this hatred?
Shortly after, once Susie learned the full sequence of events, she nodded earnestly and said, "Leave this to me. I'll go gather intelligence for you."
After that, Susie parted ways with them.
Marcus had tested the bullet provided by Susie and discovered it was merely an ordinary brass round.
Susie soon arrived at Twilight Island.
Michael was somewhat surprised by how Susie had managed to make her way onto the island.
However, according to the Red Queen's report, Michael already knew the purpose of her visit: she was actually playing spy for the two Federal Bureau of Investigation detectives.
This child's train of thought was truly brilliant. Did she really think two Federal Bureau of Investigation agents could take him down?
"Susie, what brings you here?"
Susie forced a smile and said, "I just missed you."
That smile is so fake.
Michael couldn't even be bothered to retort.
"What did you miss about me?"
Michael simply watched her perform.
Susie tried hard to improve her acting skills, but every second spent in Michael's company was sheer torture for her, making it nearly impossible to maintain a genuine smile.
"Missing you just means missing you, right? After all, you're my brother and my only remaining family in this world."
Disgusting, makes me want to vomit.
Since when have you ever considered me your brother? Except when you want money or gifts.
Michael looked helplessly at Susie, then used projection technology to pull up an image. It showed a punching bag, and pasted right on it was a photograph of Michael.
"Is this normally how you miss your brother?"
Susie was dumbfounded. She had been under surveillance without even realizing it.
"You're spying on me? You pervert."
Watching an enraged Susie, Michael smiled helplessly.
"You haven't eaten yet, have you?"
Michael walked into the kitchen, prepared a steak, and made a bowl of yogurt with granola.
"Eat up and get some sleep. Don't think too much. All you need to do right now is focus on your studies. I'm going to merge Jack Pharmaceuticals into Umbrella Corporation, and I'll allocate a share of the profits to you until you turn eighteen."
"Who would eat food made by you?"
With that, Susie made a move to smash the things on the table.
Michael grabbed her wrist and said, "Martha always said that food is a gift bestowed upon us by God and should be cherished."
Martha was a devout churchgoer who liked to offer prayers before meals.
Recalling her mother's words, Susie couldn't help but burst into tears.
After crying her heart out, she stopped caring whether the food tasted good or not, shoveled it hastily into her mouth, and then went to sleep in the room Michael had prepared for her.
Back in her room, Susie couldn't sleep. Instead, she clutched her quilt and cried bitterly.
Michael looked helplessly at the moon outside the window, feeling the bloodlust growing increasingly severe within his body, and turned to walk down into the basement.
Michael hadn't told Gwen that his bloodlust was intensifying by the day.
Although killing brought a fleeting sense of pleasure, it also dragged him deeper into addiction. What was even more terrifying was that slaughter could not grant him a thorough release; a portion of his desires always remained suppressed at the bottom of his heart.
This fraction of desire was like gunpowder, bound to erupt uncontrollably one day.
Michael grew more and more agonized. Thoughts burst forth in his mind like exploding stars, as if someone inside his head was commanding him what to do right now:
"Come on, kill her, kill her."
"Tear her apart. Her blood is delicious."
"Not just the blood, the meat can be eaten too. Kill her."
"Why kill her? You could easily use her as a breeding vessel for your offspring, violate her."
"Go on, you're her dear brother after all."
Michael could no longer endure it. "Bastards, get out of my head!"
Driven mad, he slammed himself against the pillars in the basement, turning the place into a mess.
Physical pain could briefly halt his racing thoughts and prevent his overheated brain from exploding, but it lost its effectiveness after being used too many times.
Finally, Michael could hold on no longer and injected himself with the blocking agent.
Once again, Michael lost all his abilities. For the next hour, he was nothing more than his former disabled, useless self.
Struggling, Michael rose from the floor, slowly walked over to the central control console, sat down in the chair, and panted heavily.
It had been a long time since he had felt this weak, and Michael even found himself somewhat nostalgic for those past days.
