This answer left Suzy somewhat disappointed.
"I see. Does that mean you two are partners?"
Nick Fury immediately denied it.
"No, we aren't partners. We are just in a cooperative relationship."
"For instance, the Avengers were established with my support."
Suzy suddenly remembered that since this guy was the head of an intelligence agency, he naturally knew many secrets.
"Then do you know why my parents committed suicide?"
Nick Fury hesitated for a moment and said, "It was probably to protect you kids. I'm not entirely sure of the specifics."
"Michael is so powerful, yet he couldn't protect them?"
"Sometimes, outward strength is no match for the darkness in the shadows. Just like me right now, I can only huddle here to nurse my injuries."
Suzy nodded thoughtfully.
Nick Fury continued, "Your parents' death was definitely not the work of just one person. There is a huge secret hidden behind it. Perhaps you need a platform to help you investigate."
"You aren't going to say it's you guys, are you?"
"Yes, us. S.H.I.E.L.D."
Seeing that Suzy was catching on so quickly, Nick Fury pressed on, "We possess the most elite agent team in the world. No matter what conspiracy it is, as long as we want to investigate, there will always be clues. So, how about it? Do you want to join us?"
"Join you? What's in it for me?"
Nick Fury smiled with confidence and said, "I can help you clear the data here."
He opened the projected keyboard and began to operate.
However, the system prompted him that he lacked the authorization to perform this action.
"Uh~"
That was a bit awkward.
Nick Fury immediately brought out his agent skills and began to hack into the system, which directly triggered the fire suppression system, spraying a torrent of water right onto his forehead.
The Red Queen appeared behind him and said, "Are you a pig?"
Cursing inwardly, *Motherfucker*.
Could it kill you to play along?
Nick Fury said awkwardly, "We're all friends here, do me a favor, won't you?"
"Are you the one managing this place?"
Suzy asked.
The Red Queen looked Suzy up and down, then said, "Yes. You can leave now. I will report what happened here to the master."
Suzy wanted to say something more, but Nick Fury grabbed her and pulled her away.
Looking at the chaotic and ruined laboratory, the Red Queen shook her head helplessly and dispatched cleaning robots to tidy up.
"What are you doing? If we don't deal with her, Michael will find out when he gets back."
Nick Fury's face turned even darker; he felt that this kid's brain had some screws loose.
"You don't seriously think you have the ability to deal with her, do you?"
Nick Fury pulled out his pistol and fired a few shots, immediately causing a swarm of robots to surround them. However, upon recognizing them, the robots retreated.
"See? The defense mechanism of this island could wipe you out effortlessly."
Suzy said with an unconvinced expression, "So we're just going to let Michael find out?"
"Exactly, which is why we need to get out of here quickly."
He was bound to find out anyway, because all of that was prepared for you by Michael. Your strengthening was entirely part of his plan.
Led by Nick Fury, the two of them hurried to the shore and boarded a speedboat to escape the area.
Dragged away by Nick Fury in an escape, Suzy still felt somewhat bewildered.
Nick Fury, however, couldn't care less about that; his priority was to spirit the person away first, as S.H.I.E.L.D. currently lacked any combat power worth mentioning.
"You're friends with Michael, so you must know him very well, right?"
"Yes."
Nick Fury turned his head, wanting to see what she was getting at.
"How big is the gap between Michael and me?"
"Massive. Whether in terms of strength or intellect, it's a world of difference."
Though Nick Fury knew the truth, he didn't want to tell her just yet.
"I wouldn't advise you to treat him as an opponent. He is as powerful as a monster."
Suzy felt a bit lost. She had gained power, but it was still not enough to deal with Michael.
Nick Fury said, "You have two choices. One, you do whatever you want, and it has nothing to do with me. Two, join S.H.I.E.L.D., and we are partners. I will use my resources to help you investigate, train your abilities, and besides, I'll recommend you for the Avengers."
The Avengers?
Suzy was tempted.
That was the Avengers.
She admitted that she somewhat resented people connected to Michael, but who didn't idolize heroes?
"It's a deal."
Nick Fury smiled.
"You won't regret it."
When Michael returned to the island, he discovered that Nick Fury and Suzy had already left.
Through the Red Queen's report, Michael guessed Nick Fury's little schemes.
Still, this was fine. Letting her follow Nick Fury meant he wouldn't have to waste any more energy on her.
As long as she lived a good life, Martha would certainly be happy if she knew from the afterlife.
Michael dialed Gwen's number.
"Darling, drop what you're doing and come hang out with me—let's get dinner, go shopping, and watch a movie."
The first *Spider-Girl* movie was in preparation, and Gwen was busy to death, which was why she wasn't living here.
Gwen looked at the script and smiled, saying, "I don't like people being too bossy."
"Then, my dear, would you like to have dinner and see a movie with me?"
"I don't like interrogative sentences either."
Michael felt somewhat helpless. Women, why are you sometimes so complicated?
"I want to have dinner, go shopping, and see a movie, but I can't do it without you."
Gwen felt a wave of sweetness; he was way too smooth with words.
She said shyly, "All right."
Soon, the two of them appeared on the bustling street, venturing out wearing sunglasses.
Foreigners had a very interesting way of recognizing people—all you had to do was put on sunglasses, and they wouldn't recognize you.
That was probably why foreigners always liked to cover their faces when wearing masks.
The two strolled along the street and bought quite a few things. Suddenly, Gwen spotted something, grabbed Michael, and said, "Look, I saw that."
"What is it?"
Michael was dragged all the way by Gwen to a small shop that specialized in serving Chinese cuisine.
Ah, so it was this shop. Michael couldn't help smiling.
This was the first place he had ever brought Gwen to eat Chinese snacks, and it was also the night his bloodlust first flared up.
"Two bowls of duck blood and vermicelli soup, a basket of soup dumplings, and two meat burgers."
"Gwen, your Mandarin is getting pretty fluent."
Michael couldn't help praising her.
Gwen smiled self-consciously.
The auntie chopping meat heard this and couldn't help laughing, saying, "This girl here, she used to come all the time the month before last, and she learned a few phrases of Chinese from me."
The month before last—that was when they had broken up.
Michael looked at Gwen, surprised that she still remembered this little shop.
"Say, you must be her boyfriend."
Michael was stunned for a moment, then replied, "Yeah. How could you tell?"
"This girl came here often last month, but she wasn't very happy. Today, with you here, it's completely different. Were you guys having a spat before?"
"Yeah, it was my fault."
The auntie couldn't help chiming in, "It's not like I should lecture you, but such a good girl—you must have been bullying her."
"Right. It won't happen again."
Michael felt a slight stinging in his nose and looked at Gwen with guilt.
Gwen met Michael's gaze and smiled secretly.
