Chapter 58: Angel International
"Don't worry, everything will be fine." Michael patted Jack on the shoulder and turned to head upstairs.
Kingpin was no fool; as long as his son was alive, he wouldn’t lose his mind.
Jack glanced at Martha and suggested, "Maybe we should pack up and leave."
Martha shot him a glare. "I trust Michael not to gamble with our lives. If you want to go, go by yourself."
Hesitating a moment, Jack looked over at his daughter.
Susie said, "I have so many friends here. I don't want to leave them. I'm sorry, Dad."
With that, Susie took the gift Michael had brought her and went upstairs.
Jack stood alone in the chaotic living room, hesitated a little longer, then headed upstairs as well.
The next morning, at the Osborn Tower, in the conference room.
Harry and Vanessa exchanged uneasy glances, puzzled as to why none of the other shareholders had arrived.
Michael pushed open the conference room door and strode in with confidence, taking the seat at the head of the table.
"Sorry to keep you waiting."
Harry immediately demanded, "What is going on here? Michael, why are you sitting there?"
Michael pulled out a stack of contracts and replied, "After a series of transfers, all these shares have ended up in my hands. Do you have any objections?"
He had engaged professional lawyers early that morning to ensure these contracts were legitimate, at least on paper.
Harry wasn’t a genius, but he was far from a fool—and his butler was no ordinary servant, either.
"What did you do to them?" Harry asked.
The butler tried to stop Harry, worried he might anger Michael.
But Michael showed no sign of irritation. "I’m sure you’re all aware of the recent turmoil in the company—someone manipulated the stock, and some shareholders’ shares were maliciously acquired."
"The man behind this was Kingpin, the most powerful crime boss in America. Once I uncovered the truth, I used my connections and spent a fortune to buy back the shares from him, to prevent the company from falling into the hands of a devil."
"My apologies."
Harry realized then that Michael wasn’t the type to threaten the shareholders.
Vanessa looked at Michael. "As far as I know, the remaining shares amount to fifty-one percent. Surely they’re not all in your possession, Mr. Michael?"
"They are, in fact." Michael replied.
Harry and Vanessa exchanged a glance. Even a fool could see that Michael now held absolute control.
"I now hold the majority of shares. Starting today, I’ll assume the role of chairman and executive director. Do you both agree?"
"I agree. Mr. Michael is every bit as brilliant as Mr. Norman was. I’m sure he’ll lead the company to greater glory," Vanessa answered immediately.
It hardly mattered whether they agreed or not. With absolute control, Michael could make all decisions himself; informing them was merely a courtesy.
Seeing Vanessa agree, Harry nodded his assent as well.
At first, Michael saw nothing amiss, but then he realized Vanessa’s comparison to Norman was a veiled curse.
Norman had fathered Harry as a teenager and died in his thirties as the Green Goblin—a life cut tragically short, with his reputation ruined after death.
No wonder the upper class were so adept at insinuation.
Still, Michael didn’t care. Vanessa had powerful backers, and a few words would hardly kill him.
"I’d like to rename the company. Do you have any suggestions? Please feel free to speak your mind."
Vanessa smiled. "I think that’s wise. The Osborn name has been tarnished by the Green Goblin. Better to avoid reminding everyone of him whenever Osborn is mentioned."
Hearing this, Harry’s expression darkened, and he fell silent.
The butler, anxious but helpless, finally pleaded with Michael, "Mr. Michael, Osborn Enterprises was Mr. Norman’s life’s work. Can’t you at least keep the name?"
"I’m afraid not, sir. If the company is to survive, we must first break free from the shadows of the past. We need to properly address the crimes of the Green Goblin and gradually erase his legacy. The Osborn name cannot remain."
Hearing Michael’s refusal, the butler sighed and said no more.
He had served three generations of the Osborn family. The young Norman had once been rebellious, striking out on his own with his wife, and had built Osborn up over decades of relentless effort.
Alas, one misstep brought ruin—not only was the legacy lost, but the family name was forever disgraced.
Michael looked at the two. "If you have no suggestions, I’ll decide the new company name myself."
"Please, Mr. Michael, the choice is yours."
Clearly, they understood Michael now held absolute control and that this was only a formality.
Vanessa couldn’t help but reflect on how the old made way for the new; Michael, so young, had already achieved what Norman had. His future was limitless.
"Let’s call it Angel International. What do you think?"
Harry and Vanessa were both surprised. They had expected Michael to name it after himself, perhaps Morbius, but instead he chose Angel International.
"That’s perfectly fine," Harry said at once.
If it had become Morbius, it would have felt as though Michael had stolen the company from him. Angel International, on the other hand, made it easier to accept.
"Excellent. I’ll be holding a press conference soon to announce the official name change. As for the harm caused by the Green Goblin, the company will provide compensation."
Soon, Michael convened a press conference and had Harry publicly acknowledge the Green Goblin’s wrongdoing and announce financial compensation for the victims.
For the sake of the company’s future, Harry proved ruthless—he agreed without hesitation.
If not for diligent bodyguards, he would have been beaten half to death on the spot.
After the troublemakers calmed down, the protests and demonstrations gradually subsided.
Michael held another press conference, this time announcing the withdrawal of certain shareholders and his own assumption of leadership.
Osborn Enterprises was officially renamed Angel International, and the Osborn Tower’s emblem was replaced with a pair of angelic wings and a sacred sword.
This marked Angel International’s farewell to the Osborn legacy and the start of a new journey.
Tony was woken by Pepper and watched Michael’s press conference with thoughtful eyes. In the end, he called to congratulate Michael—a gesture of friendship.
As for Michael, he now had to deal with the mountain of problems left behind.
Osborn was not like Stark Industries, which had always relied on the genius of the Stark family—first Howard, now Tony, both among the world’s brightest minds.
Osborn Enterprises, on the other hand, was different. From the second floor to the rooftop, there were more than two hundred laboratories of all sizes, which was why Osborn could develop in so many fields.
But now, after the Green Goblin incident, some scientists had already resigned.
During his investigation, Michael was astonished to discover that a few of them—truly gifted individuals—had even joined the protest marches.
To rebel against one's own company—such was the baffling state of affairs he now faced.
