Chapter 140: Astonishment
"Still refusing to admit defeat? Kill all of these people for me, and try to keep their corpses as intact as possible. We'll drag them back later to reassemble the corpse formation." Luo Xingtao had recovered from the grief and anger of seeing his sect's sacred artifact destroyed by me, and he stared with great interest at the people Liu Zhongguo had brought along.
The twelve fishermen brought by Liu Zhongguo were each no less formidable in strength than Chen Yetian. If their corpses were truly used to reassemble the corpse formation, the resulting power would undoubtedly be terrifyingly immense.
In this way, it would make up for the great regret of Duhe City losing its Pai Sect sacred artifact to me, and Luo Xingtao could thus redeem himself through meritorious service.
Upon hearing Luo Xingtao's words, the fierce murderous aura of those twenty living people and corpses, standing back-to-back across their coffins, soared into the sky once again, charging toward the fishermen and us.
I did not know why Liu Zhongguo kept holding back and refusing to make a move, and even though I was hiding behind him, he showed no intention of protecting me. With matters having reached this point, all I could do was lift the Suolian, detach the sickle from one end of the chain, and grip the iron chain tightly in my hand.
Seeing this action of mine, a puzzled expression appeared on Liu Zhongguo's face, and he said, "Pi Yangxi, why remove such a fine weapon? You are practically crippling your own martial arts. Even if you cannot win, you shouldn't just give up like this."
What Liu Zhongguo did not know was that I had been whipping things since I was a child. After my grandfather passed his ghost-slaying whip down to me, I practiced at home every single day. At this moment, the iron chain without the sickle resembled the ghost-slaying whip even more. Looking at the bewildered Liu Zhongguo, I said, "Who said I gave up? Since you called all these people trash, I'd like to see the gap between myself and this trash."
With the iron chain in hand, my confidence returned, and I wanted to test my own strength as well. The twelve fishermen brought by Liu Zhongguo varied in strength; the slightly more capable ones could entangle two fierce corpses each, while those of average strength could only manage two people against one fierce corpse. So far, I hadn't seen anyone capable of taking on three by themselves.
As for Liu Zhongguo, who still hadn't made a move, those fierce corpses seemed to recognize his formidable power, and since Liu Zhongguo didn't attack, the corpses didn't move against him either.
After such a tangled fight, there were still three fierce corpses left unengaged. At this moment, the corpses still lying inside those three coffins opened pairs of clear, chilling eyes and stared icily right at me.
Normally, the eyes of the dead are not terrifying, but dead people having the eyes of the living is enough to make one's scalp tingle.
"Master Liu, I'll help you handle one of these three fierce corpses, and you can leave the other two to yourself?" Right now, only Liu Zhongguo and I were free to act, and the strongest fishermen he brought could only handle two fierce corpses. Me saying I would take on one didn't seem too unreasonable, right?
Who would have thought Liu Zhongguo would reply, "Pi Yangxi, young people should get more tempering and experience. I am old now, and these bones of mine aren't sturdy enough to endure such tossing and turning. You can take care of all three of these fierce corpses." Having said that, Liu Zhongguo sat back down in his seat and went back to drinking his wine.
"Judging by the way you guzzle wine, you don't look like your bones aren't sturdy!" I cursed fiercely in my mind. Before I could say anything more, those three fierce corpses rose into the air along with their coffins, charging at me from three different directions.
At the same time, I noticed an expression of extreme smugness on Luo Xingtao's face in the distance, presumably believing that I was a dead man this time with no way out.
I gripped the chain tightly, which was now free of its sickle, and with a flexible flick of my wrist, the chain lashed out toward the fierce corpse directly in front of me.
"Fool, chains are useless against fierce corpses!" Liu Zhongguo, thinking I was going to whip the fierce corpses with the chain, shouted a curse at the top of his lungs.
However, Liu Zhongguo's worry was evidently unfounded. Just as my iron chain was about to strike the body of the fierce corpse, my wrist performed a deft maneuver, causing the iron chain to loop in the air and instantly entangle the fierce corpse along with its coffin, binding them completely. Then, leveraging that subtle momentum, I violently whipped my arm through the air, flinging the fierce corpse and coffin at the other end of the chain upward, hurling them directly at the other two fierce corpses flying toward me.
With a deafening crash, those two fierce corpse coffins were sent flying backward, heading straight toward Luo Xingtao, who was standing in the distance.
"Good lad!" Seeing this scene, Liu Zhongguo was so excited that he almost dropped the wine cup from his hand, looking at me with eyes full of admiration, completely caught off guard by that clever move of mine.
Watching the two coffins flying toward him, Luo Xingtao, who had been gloating just moments before, turned pale with shock, realizing it was already too late to run. Just as I waited to see Luo Xingtao get sent flying by the coffins, the coffins suddenly froze rigidly in place when they were still half a hair's breadth away from him.
Even so, the fierce wind whipped up by the coffins blew the black hat right off Luo Xingtao's head, revealing his terrified face directly to me.
For the first time, I clearly saw what Luo Xingtao looked like. He was a young man in his early twenties, and across his face were five long, deep scars. The wounds were so deep that the flesh had turned outward, as if they had been clawed open by something. Since Luo Xingtao was already rather plain-looking to begin with, those five claw marks made him appear all the more hideous and unsightly.
