Chapter 143: Born in Bed, Dying in Bed

Kong Sha felt he must have gone mad to be hearing such insane ramblings. He was well aware that the entire headquarters of the Blood Flag had been dead silent for the past forty minutes, with not the slightest disturbance. Could Qin Anyi really have slaughtered the entire Blood Flag without anyone noticing? Despite his blind confidence in Qin Anyi, Kong Sha still found this notion too exaggerated and insane. He subconsciously glanced around, noticing that the doors of all the nearby single-story houses within his line of sight were firmly shut. Except for a somewhat eerie silence, the entire village showed no trace of any bloody smell.
Kong Sha walked up and kicked open the door of the nearest house, walking inside with a suspicious expression. Such enduring silence amidst such a massive commotion clearly proved there were no living people left in the village. Yet, unless he saw it with his own eyes, Kong Sha could hardly believe that everyone in the village was dead.
When Kong Sha walked into the bedroom of the house and saw the two naked, lifeless corpses lying on the bed, he gasped sharply. He retreated numbly from the house, then kicked open the doors of several more houses in succession. After checking the bedrooms of each, Kong Sha was forced to believe the reality Qin Anyi had spoken of.
"This is truly... truly... simply unimaginable." Kong Sha walked numbly back to Qin Anyi's side, completely at a loss for words to describe everything he had seen.
"Get used to it slowly. Remaining calm even if Mount Tai collapses before you is an essential quality of the strong. Your heart must be strong enough not to be easily influenced by anything. Let's go, it's time to return. The members of the Blood Flag have all been killed, so there won't be any danger in the village anymore," Qin Anyi said calmly.
"Yes." Kong Sha bowed in submission, straightening his posture once more. The look he gave Qin Anyi was now filled with fanatical devotion. Qin Anyi had accomplished one thing after another that he had previously thought impossible, sparking a faith-like emotion within him. The characteristic of faith is blindness and fanaticism, and Kong Sha was practically in that state right now.
"Did you knock all these people unconscious?" Just as they reached the village entrance, Qin Anyi saw eight people lying on the ground who clearly still had breath, and asked with a frown.
"Yes. Su Pan's people suddenly arrived, and I felt I couldn't wait any longer, so I had to make a move," Kong Sha scratched his head, looking embarrassed. Since Qin Anyi could silently slaughter the entire Blood Flag, his own intervention naturally seemed completely redundant.
"I'm not asking about that. I want to know why you didn't kill them all," Qin Anyi said coldly.
"Kill... them all? But... they've already lost their combat capability..." Kong Sha faltered, momentarily not knowing how to respond to Qin Anyi's question.
"Regardless of whether they have combat capability or not, the enemy is always the enemy. Since they are the enemy, they must be exterminated completely, leaving not the slightest possibility of danger to yourself. Now, kill them," Qin Anyi said expressionlessly, leaving no room for argument.
"But... but they are all unconscious right now and have no ability to resist. I... I..." Kong Sha was momentarily flustered.
"The path of the strong is one of conquest and slaughter. When they can be killed, when they should be killed, you must kill them without the slightest hesitation. To kill one man is a crime, but to slaughter ten thousand makes you a hero! If you wish to become a hero among men, you must have the resolve to slaughter the entire world. If you hesitate even at killing, you will never truly reach the peak. Handle it yourself."
After speaking, Qin Anyi ignored Kong Sha, turned around, and walked away without hesitation.
Kong Sha gritted his teeth as he watched Qin Anyi walk further and further away. Finally making up his mind, he stepped forward and crushed the necks of the eight unconscious men one by one.
Accompanied by crisp snapping sounds, he let out a long breath... as if lifting a massive boulder from his chest. Looking at the completely dilated pupils of the eight men on the ground, Kong Sha suddenly felt a bit nauseous and couldn't help dry-heaving a few times before hurriedly running after Qin Anyi.
"You must have killed quite a few people before this, right?" Catching up with Qin Anyi in long strides, Kong Sha asked curiously, "You can remain so calm after killing so many people from the Blood Flag, but how old are you anyway? About the same as me, right? What age did you start killing people?"
"Me? Killing Khun Sa in front of Su Pan's village earlier was the first time I ever killed someone," Qin Anyi said casually.
"Ah?" Kong Sha was instantly stunned. He blanked out for a long while before continuing to ask, "How is that possible? Your methods of killing were so practiced, and you were terrifyingly calm afterwards... How could it be your first time? Aren't they say that people usually suffer psychological shadows or even psychological barriers after killing for the first time?"
"As long as your conscience is clear, that is enough. There are as many principles and laws in this world as stars in the sky—why bother caring about them? Do what you believe is right. The truly strong never care about the rules, because the rules are made by them," Qin Anyi said without a second thought.
"That's right, exactly this reasoning. Even without my influence, you have no resistance whatsoever to killing. In your human parlance, you are born cold-blooded," Qilin's voice suddenly chimed in.
"No, right after killing the leader of the Blood Flag, I also thought I must be naturally cold-blooded. But after killing all the members of the Blood Flag, I realized I am not cold-blooded; I simply know very well what it is I want to protect. To protect them, I must constantly grow stronger and possess power! For the sake of the people I wish to protect, even if it means slaughtering the entire world, it is of no consequence," Qin Anyi replied calmly.
Qilin fell silent for a moment before suddenly saying, "I no longer need to worry about your state of mind. The most troublesome emotional issues for you humans are no longer issues for you. You truly are a complex proposition. No matter how I calculate, it seems impossible to arrive at the most accurate data conclusion about you."
"You don't understand. We can be weakened by emotions, but we can also become incomparably strong because of them," Qin Anyi smiled. "When you truly understand that, it will mean you have evolved into a genuine artificial intelligence."
"How on earth did you do it?" On the way back, Kong Sha wrestled with his curiosity for a long time before finally asking.
"When a person focuses entirely on a certain matter, they tend to selectively ignore everything else. I simply happened to encounter a lucky timing, and that group of people happened to be focusing on the exact same thing simultaneously."
"What could make them all so focused that they didn't even react while being killed?" Kong Sha asked, slightly startled and extremely curious.
"For men, it could be considered life's greatest pleasure and ultimate pursuit. Speaking of which, dying in that state is quite a fortunate thing. Born on a bed, dying on a bed, with life and death both happening on a bed—it is not necessarily an unfortunate cycle of reincarnation," Qin Anyi smiled slightly.
Kong Sha pondered for quite a while before finally understanding what Qin Anyi meant. Once he figured it out, black lines instantly covered his forehead. This really was dying under a peony blossom, being a romantic ghost... It was just that the Blood Flag, which had controlled this region for over a dozen years, ending up destroyed in such a manner was simply too theatrical.
Life... really is often stranger than fiction.
