The plane from Chiang Mai Province to Changqing International Airport took off on schedule. Qin Anyi sat in the comfortable first-class seat, gazing absently out the window as the buildings below gradually shrank into countless tiny specks, soon replaced by rolling mountains and waterways winding in every direction.

Kong Sha sat beside him. Since this was his first time leaving Thailand for an unfamiliar country, he seemed both excited and nervous.

Qin Anyi said little to him. His mind kept returning to what had happened two hours earlier—that intoxicating encounter had been the first time in his life. He had never imagined that he would lose his virginity like that. Strictly speaking, he had even been taken by a woman.

As for Deying, Qin Anyi did not harbor any particular feelings toward her. He could only say that, during the week they had spent together, her unfailing care had touched him deeply.

But that emotion had nothing to do with love. Qin Anyi had never imagined that anything profound would develop between them. Yet that was precisely the drama of life: the things you least expected were often the ones that happened suddenly, appearing without warning before you had time to prepare. Then, before you realized it, they became established facts, leaving you no choice but to accept them.

That was life.

It was filled with tedious repetitions, yet also with unexpected helplessness.

“Ah…”

Qin Anyi let out a quiet sigh. Deying had been his first woman, and he had been her first man. Though he did not love her, deep down he still felt that this created a responsibility.

Even if Deying did not need him to shoulder it, even if she wanted nothing more to do with him, a knot had nevertheless formed in his heart. If the opportunity ever arose…

He would have to do something for Deying.

“Why are you sighing?” Kong Sha asked curiously.

“Nothing. I was just thinking about something.” Qin Anyi smiled and said no more.

Kong Sha was about to press him when a figure suddenly appeared beside them.

“Excuse me. Would either of you be willing to exchange seats with me?”

Qin Anyi looked up and saw an exceptionally beautiful woman. She was tall and slender, with long hair falling over her shoulders. Beneath her dress, black stockings displayed the perfect length of her legs, and her bearing was striking enough to make any man’s heart stir.

At that moment, however, her face was clouded with worry, diminishing her beauty somewhat.

“Zixin, why do you keep avoiding me? It isn’t as though I’m going to eat you. Since you want to change seats, I’ll change with you. You’ll be my wife sooner or later. What’s the point of keeping your distance from me all the time?”

A short, thin man with a rather lecherous appearance came over.

“Friend, then please change seats with me as well. I’ll pay you twice the price of your ticket. Consider it my treat.”

The man spoke with an arrogant air, clearly accustomed to throwing his weight around.

“I’m afraid I’ll have to decline. I’m quite satisfied with this seat and have no intention of changing.”

Qin Anyi did not even look at him. He leaned back against his seat and closed his eyes as he spoke.

Anger immediately surfaced on the thin man’s face. He gave a cold snort.

“Friend, offering twice the price is already a great concession on my part. Don’t mistake my patience for permission to act superior. Be careful. You may end up gaining nothing and instead bring trouble upon yourself—trouble you can’t afford to provoke.”

“If you’ve finished talking nonsense, go back to your seat. I have no interest in empty threats.”

Qin Anyi lifted his eyelids slightly and spoke in a weary tone.

The thin man’s face flushed red. He looked ready to lose control and strike, but Kong Sha stood beside them, watching him with predatory intent.

Kong Sha was not especially imposing in build, but years of boxing had given him a fierce presence. On top of that, he still carried the faint aura of violence left by personally killing someone earlier that day. It was enough to intimidate the thin man.

After sizing up his own frail body, which was hardly capable of fighting, the man could only give another furious snort.

“Very well, you’ve got nerve. Since you’re on this flight, you must be from Changqing City as well, aren’t you? Do you dare give me your name and identity? Once we’re back in Changqing City, I’ll settle today’s matter with you properly.”

“Kong Sha, take him back to his seat. This is a public place. He’s shouting so loudly that he’s causing trouble for everyone else. If he has no manners, that’s his problem. Don’t let him drag us into being scolded as well.”

Qin Anyi closed his eyes again and spoke calmly.

Kong Sha immediately agreed. He seized the thin man by the collar and, with effortless ease, carried him toward the two empty seats.

The thin man quickly realized that his strength was no match for Kong Sha’s. He could do nothing but roar angrily.

Kong Sha’s response was simple and brutal. He lightly punched the man in the stomach.

The thin man rolled his eyes back. His face turned deathly pale, and his cries stopped abruptly. He became much more obedient at once.

“You should have heard of the Tang Group,” Yuan Zixin said quietly. “It belongs to the Tang family. Their influence is enormous, so it would be best not to provoke them.”

“Compared with being manipulated, I prefer people to speak openly and honestly. After all, there aren’t many fools in this world, but there are plenty of clever people.”

Qin Anyi opened his eyes and looked at Yuan Zixin calmly.

Her expression changed slightly, though she quickly forced a smile.

“I don’t understand what you mean.”

“If you don’t understand, then go back to your seat.”
