Chapter Seventeen: Let's Live Together

“It was my first time trying something like this, so I was curious. The design of this room is quite ingenious—it seems that every time you use it, both the direction of the lasers and the trigger points are randomized, right?” Qin Anyi stepped out of the transparent room, drenched in sweat. The moment his eyes landed on Wang Yiran, dressed in a tight sports outfit, he swallowed hard; his throat felt dry. At school, Wang Yiran was the dream girl of every boy because of her face, but he’d never expected that, at eighteen, she’d already developed such a perfect figure...
“Yes, it’s randomized. So during the test, it’s all about your real-time reactions. Honestly, I didn’t expect you to clear the beginner’s ninth level. Right now, you don’t fully understand what this means, but you will someday. Someone like you is destined not to remain unknown forever—even if it’s not your wish, sooner or later, your name will shake the world.” Wang Yiran spoke with certainty.
In this era, although many still believed in showcasing their strength through physical power, those who truly held absolute power in the world were, in fact, those with superhuman intellect.
“Let’s analyze your abilities first and see if we can devise a more reasonable training regimen,” Qin Anyi said, scratching his head and quickly changing the subject. His earlier performance had been a bit too much.
But Qin Anyi’s curiosity about Wang Yiran’s identity only deepened. Everything he had seen so far made it clear she was far more than just a rich girl.
“Alright. Are you still okay? You look like you’ve used up a lot of stamina.”
“It’s fine, my observation isn’t affected. Is there any kind of simulated combat setup? I need to see how much combat power I can exert right now.”
“There is.” Wang Yiran nodded and led Qin Anyi to a corner of the basement, where a strange apparatus stood. With practiced hands, she donned the various components of the device and explained, “This is the latest virtual combat system, mainly for solo training. You need to wear sensors on all the critical parts of your body. Your movements are transmitted via the sensors to the computer, while the virtual opponent’s actions are also sent to you through the sensors, making it feel as though you’re really fighting someone.”
After explaining, Wang Yiran put on a full-face helmet, pressed a button on the side, and immediately assumed a fighting stance.
Qin Anyi found himself tormented, his eyes involuntarily following the rhythmic rise and fall of Wang Yiran’s chest. It took a monumental effort to pull his focus back to the task at hand, though his body was already reacting. At eighteen, his youthful vigor was at its peak. He may not have watched those kinds of movies, but he certainly knew the basics; in this day and age, it was impossible not to. His imagination began to run wild, yet he still had to concentrate on analyzing Wang Yiran’s combat movements, which made him even more uncomfortable.
The virtual fight didn’t last long—about five minutes. After a swift spinning kick, Wang Yiran exhaled deeply, removed the helmet, and peeled off the sensors one by one.
Because it was a virtual battle, the sensors had to deliver perfectly authentic neural feedback; otherwise, the force of the attacks would simply strike air, easily resulting in injury. On the other hand, if the neural stimulation was too realistic, it could cause problems for the trainee even when there was no physical injury at all. That the mind can affect the body is an accepted truth, so these virtual battles were not without danger, and the difficulty settings had to be chosen carefully.
Qin Anyi, without thinking, began reciting a string of data that had popped into his head... Only after he finished did he realize something was off. Damn that Kirin—why did it have to analyze Wang Yiran’s measurements, too? And he’d stupidly read them aloud without thinking!
Wang Yiran had been listening intently to his analysis of her combat stats. Since she’d already tested all these figures with professional equipment, she was amazed by the precision of the numbers Qin Anyi had calculated in his mind. But she hadn’t expected him to blurt out something like that at the end. With no warning, a crimson blush bloomed across her cheeks.
“Stick to the main points!” Wang Yiran gritted her teeth, finally spitting out the words.
Qin Anyi gave an awkward laugh and continued, “Current physical data—”
“Move... Move in together?” Qin Anyi was stunned by Wang Yiran’s suggestion.
“That’s right, let’s live together,” Wang Yiran said with a wicked grin, her tone thick with innuendo.
Here she goes again with her mischief...
