Chapter Eighteen: A Genius Discovered

"Yiran? Why are you calling me so late? Is something urgent?" A deep, resonant male voice came through the receiver.
"Dad, I've found a genius, a true, unprecedented genius." Wang Yiran, holding her phone in one hand and propping her chin with the other, lounged lazily on her bed, her snow-white, lotus-like legs swinging off the edge. Qin Anyi had left half an hour ago, taking care to ask Wang Yiran details about the nearby bus routes before he went. Poor Wang Yiran—she had never taken a bus in her life, so all she could do in response was shake her head...
Even now, recalling how Qin Anyi had looked so flustered after she boldly suggested, "Let's live together," Wang Yiran felt a sense of satisfaction. That infuriating fellow had startled her so many times in just one day; she considered this small revenge as a bit of interest collected.
"A genius? If even our Lady Yiran calls someone a genius, I wonder who he is. Judging from your tone, you seem quite pleased. What is it—have you finally decided to marry Yiqiu?" The man teased, his voice full of warmth.
"Is that possible? That feudal childhood betrothal—don't even think I'll accept it. Don't forget you promised me: as long as I meet the minimum standard in a year, you'll help me cancel that ridiculous engagement set by the elders," Wang Yiran replied calmly.
"Alright, alright, since I promised you, I'll keep my word. But you only have one year left. Right now, you're still far from the mark. If you really make it, you'll break Yiqiu's record. But I truly don't understand—what's wrong with Yiqiu? His family background, character, and talents are all exceptional. Why won't you consider him?"
The man's voice carried a hint of confusion. Wang Yiran paused before speaking, "There's nothing wrong with Yiqiu; I just don't like him."
"If you don't like him, then fight for your own chance. Now tell me about this genius—just how remarkable is he, that you would call me yourself?"
"He’s my classmate. For two years, I never noticed anything special about him. He was like the most ordinary passerby, hardly making a mark in the class. But today, for certain reasons, I brought him to my family's training facility. Do you know what his final score was in the evasion test?"
"Same age as you? Your score is Intermediate Level Five, best result seventeen points, which is already outstanding. But to be called a genius by you... Did he pass the Intermediate Level and reach the Advanced Level?"
"No, his final score was Intermediate Level Ten, sixty-three points—just two points shy of passing Intermediate."
"Oh? Sixty-three points at your age... Yes, that does make him a genius, though not necessarily unprecedented. Yiqiu reached Advanced Level at your age," the man replied, unimpressed.
"Dad, it’s different. My classmate hasn’t even activated his physical potential yet."
"What?! How is that possible?" The man exclaimed, then quickly lowered his voice, aware of his outburst. "Sweetheart, are you telling me the truth?"
"Lie to you? There's no satisfaction in lying to you," Wang Yiran said disdainfully. "I found it unbelievable too, but the facts are clear. Through observation, I'm certain he hasn’t activated his physical potential. The reason he achieved sixty-three points is because his brain is extraordinary. Even with the difficulty of Intermediate Level Ten, he could instantly analyze and respond with precision. Not only that, just by observing, he could calculate my punch speed, force, reaction time, and a series of other data."
As Wang Yiran mentioned the series of data, she suddenly remembered Qin Anyi reciting her measurements—this wretched guy, how could his eyes possibly see through everything? And even if he knows, why announce it so directly? Would it kill him to keep it to himself?
"Relying on mental calculation? That... That can't be... Sweetheart, do you know anything about his background?"
"We’ve been classmates for over two years, but I only discovered his uniqueness today. The rest is still unclear, though his talent is undeniable. I hope we can send a team to investigate him thoroughly. By the way, since his observational skills are so keen, I've invited him to stay at our house for a while, to tutor me and design my training regimen."
"If you think it’s fine, go ahead. But for an ordinary person who hasn't activated physical potential to pass Intermediate Level Nine... This is very strange. I’ll need to discuss it with some others."
"It's not just Intermediate Level Nine. From what I observed, he had the ability to pass Level Ten. But for some reason, in the last two laser rounds, he stopped and let the beams hit him instead of dodging," Wang Yiran said, puzzled.
"I can explain that. The entire evasion training at the Intermediate stage is set at the human body’s standard limit. The current normal limit for the brain’s calculation is Intermediate Level Four, and before activating physical potential, the body’s limit is Intermediate Level Ten," the man laughed. "If someone tries to force through Level Ten without activating physical potential, relying solely on a prodigious brain, it will cause irreparable harm to the body. Your classmate must have realized this and stopped. But this also means that, for his brain, Level Ten is not yet the limit."
"I see. Enough talking, I’m going to sleep. My classmate said that sufficient rest is the best way to ensure training effectiveness."
Wang Yiran hung up, tossed her phone aside, and rolled over onto her spacious bed, lost in thought.
Her feelings toward Qin Anyi were truly strange. No boy had ever shocked her so much in just one day. Although they'd only really known each other for a day, Qin Anyi already occupied a place in her heart. She’d only intended to improve her odds in next month's knowledge competition, never expecting to stumble upon such a genius by sheer luck.
Now Wang Yiran regretted not discovering Qin Anyi’s talent two years earlier. If she had, perhaps under his guidance, she would already have met the required standard. Now only a year remained… She wondered if she could make it in time—but she had to, even if only for herself.
